European P38's colors ? Empty
PostSubject: European P38's colors ?   European P38's colors ? EmptyTue 13 Jun - 13:14

Hi all,

I have just received my P38s to get some aerial support for my US para company. I focus on the European Theatre of Operation.

My (web) sources are not clear on the colors used in Europe. Should I paint them in silver or in olive ? Moreover, maybe one of you has a good info picture...

Thanks for your help and see you soon,

Kind regards,

Benoit

As a general info, all ETO based P38 in tactical units (not true for some air escort units) had the olive drab suit. Notably, most of the MTO based units were silver but at least two squadrons based in Africa, and later in Italy, also had the olive drab cover. I have the book to lend if you need it.
I suggest you to buy spray color - olive drab exists in Tamiya range in at least two tones.

Thanks for your replies. I'll try to find the book in a bookshop like "Evasion" in Brussels (instead if you have a better supplier for this particular title).

Have a good sunny week-end !

La librairie "Le feuillet jauni" à Waterloo dispose des Osprey dont celui sur les P38 en Europe et en Méditerrannée.
Malheureusement ils ne vendent que sur rendez-vous.
J'attends leur dernier listing pour connaître les prix.

I still can allow the guy to have my copy for a while - it's here at work near the Brussels-Luxembourg station if he wants to come and pick it up.
I work Rue de la Science, 11.

I would also advise to pay a little visit to the second hand book stores near Rue du Midi-Place Anneessens. Last weekend I found at "Evasions" (Rue du Midi) books on P-38s and on P-47s. In another shop I found the Historica n°73: les avions du 6 juin, which I bought, toghether with a book on Arnhem and several on Waterloo (191th anniversary last weekend).

Hi all,

Thanks for your messages. I'll try my chance and straff your units as soon as possible.

FYI here is the link (minifigs) from where I bought the planes : http://www.miniaturefigurines.co.uk/cgi-bin/showrange.pl?subsection_id=10 .

Kind regards,

Benoit

Hi all,

Yesterday evening I tried my chance to get the Ospery/del Prado book at the 2nd hand bookshops of the rue du midi.

As usual, impossible to find anything into Evasion (a good shop to go when you are not looking for a specific book but otherwise...). However, I have been into the "bouquinerie Thomas" located into the same street where books are visible and classified by genre. Two minutes later I was paying the recommended publication.

So thanks to all. I can now start painting my planes.

Kind regards,

Benoit
