Digging in and Going to ground Empty
PostSubject: Digging in and Going to ground   Digging in and Going to ground EmptyFri 18 Aug - 10:04

Is there any interest to dig in and going to ground? Is it legal or incompatible?

Say that in the first turn, a platoon passes the test to dig in. In the second turn, given that it is in defence, it does not move and does not fire: according to the rule, it goes to ground.

In practice it gets a +2 bonus to be hit (+ 1 for concealment and +1 for going to ground) or a +3 if the opponent firing platoon is more than 40 cm away, and if it fails it save, the opponent has to roll a firepower test.

What are your views?

It's very interesting because you benefit from the +1 and your're in bulletproof cover...so...if you fail a save ther's the firepower...

But i don't think that you're concealed because digging in it's a movement so...when you move you're not concealed...

Only in the mission hold the line in "prepared position" you benefit from the rule CONCEALED GONE TO GROUND AND FOXHOLES (dig in)

so +3 is correct....

The benefit of DUG IN is very interesting for platoons in defense or immobile:

Thoses units are quite invulnerable against soft weapons like rifles, LMG, HMG, Light/medium mortars (FP 5 or more)

It's intersting for units with a save of 5+ like gun teams and all unarmoured units in defensive position. It's also interesting for Staff team who are vulnerable (and useless the first turn of game Idea ).

Gone to Ground is also a very intersting option because it protect units that don't shoot and don't move. It's automatic and they become harder to touch. It's vrey intersting for veteran because at more than 40cm, they cn't be shoot at. However, they are still suitable target for bombardment.

So, all those advantages make difference between a veteran player (who will use and abuse) and a newbie (who will often forget it).
