Vierville-sur-Mer on the left... "La villa fortifiée" on the heights.
06:30 : The troops in "La villa fortifiée" prepares to fire at will !
06:30 : Under the relative cover of the smoke produced
by the intensive fire from the boats, the company A/116 (29th ID),
supported by Shermans from B/743th lands on Dog green sector.
Immediately, a dozer tank attempt to make a breach.
06:40 : the 88mm in WN72 eats a Sherman tank!
June 6th - 06:50 : some men of the A/116 are leaving the beach...
thanks to the Dozer tank!
07:00 : the second wave reaches the Dog green sector.
Elements of the first wave are running toward the 88mm to destroy it.
07:15 : elements of the B/116 (29th ID) arrive on sector Charlie
to reinforce the C company of the 2nd Rangers.
07:30 : The 88mm bunker is assoulted and destroyed! (turn 6)
08:00 : the Kommandantur, HQ of the 11/726 ID, is overwhelmed!
Well, players had to stop before the conclusion of the game, but :
- the US didn't suffer the historic huge costs in men for their first wave
- even if the US managed to breakout (as they really did), the germans
can be satisfied and both of their commanders are awarded the medal
as they held their positions for more than 6 turns.
Special notes :- We didn't use the rules as written for many things as for the drift rules
because we choosed to give preference in playing what was where and when.
- As the US broke through quite easy on Dog green, with infantry and tanks,
we used a "what if" option by giving a reinforcement of 4 Marder IIIM, as if
these elements (sent by Kampfgruppe Meyer) were not hindred by allied planes.
We pointed out several things to make this scenario better for next time.
For example, the range of the guns have to be increased (even if we should, maybe,
lower the AT and FP ratings to reflect the long range, because, in such circumstances,
the FoW values are inappropriate (the 50mm and 75mm were always out of range).
